Embracing the New Year: How Journaling and Adult Coloring Are My Resolutions for Growth

My Most Important Ever New Year's Resolution: Journaling

As the New Year dawned upon me, I found myself in the familiar whirlwind of setting resolutions. Like many, I aimed for the usual suspects – exercise more, eat healthier, be more organized.

However, amidst the flurry of commonplace resolutions, I decided to take a different route this year. I resolved to prioritize my mental well-being and self-discovery through the seemingly simple yet profound acts of journaling and coloring.

Journaling (which for me is the act of keeping a journal and making daily entries) had always intrigued me, yet I often found myself hesitant to dive into the practice.

The blank pages of a journal seemed daunting, almost intimidating.

However, I realized that journaling wasn't about creating literary masterpieces; it was about expressing myself freely, without judgment or expectation.

So, armed with a fresh journal and a pen and a few coloring pencils in my favorite pastel colors, I embarked on my journey of self-reflection and self-expression.

The Journey I took of Journaling & Coloring

Each day, I dedicated a few moments to jotting down my thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Sometimes, it was a stream of consciousness, raw and unfiltered.

Other times, it was structured and purposeful, focusing on specific goals or challenges. Regardless of the approach, journaling became my sanctuary, a safe space where I could unravel the complexities of my mind and soul.

Through journaling, I discovered the power of introspection.

I unearthed hidden fears, celebrated small victories, and confronted long-standing doubts.

As I poured my thoughts onto paper, I found clarity amidst chaos and solace amidst uncertainty.

Journaling became my compass, guiding me through the twists and turns of life with newfound resilience and insight.

However, my journey didn't stop there.

Intrigued by the therapeutic benefits of creative expression, I stumbled upon the world of adult coloring. Initially dismissed as a mere pastime, coloring soon revealed itself as a profound form of mindfulness and relaxation.

Armed with a set of vibrant colored pencils and intricate coloring books, I delved into the world of patterns and hues. With each stroke of color, I felt my worries melt away, replaced by a sense of calm and serenity.

The rhythmic motion of coloring became a form of meditation, allowing me to immerse myself fully in the present moment.

Through coloring, I rediscovered the joy of simplicity. In a world filled with constant noise and distraction, coloring provided a reprieve, a moment of stillness amidst the chaos.

As I filled each page with vibrant shades, I felt a renewed sense of creativity and playfulness awaken within me.

Together, journaling and coloring became my pillars of self-care and growth in the new year.

They provided me with the tools to navigate life's challenges with grace and resilience. They taught me the importance of nurturing my mental well-being and embracing the journey of self-discovery.

So, as I embark on this new chapter of my life, I carry with me the lessons learned through journaling and coloring.

They remind me to pause, reflect, and embrace the beauty of the present moment. And as I continue to grow and evolve, I am grateful for the simple yet profound resolutions that have transformed my life in ways I never imagined possible.

Together, journaling and coloring became my pillars of self-care and growth in the new year.
